Mercury Filmworks is currently seeking an experienced Location Designer to join our team in Ottawa. This position is an excellent opportunity to live in Canada’s beautiful capital city while working alongside our creative team to inspire and lead the visual direction of a 2D production. Job Description:

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of solid design skills, creative sensibility, interpersonal skills, and animation production experience who shares those ideals and wants to help lead our company into the future. This position will be part-time with the possibility of being full-time, with the option of working in house or remotely. Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the concept creation of environment layouts to fit the approved style of the series.
  • Draft, design and produce high quality Location Design.
  • Maintain the style and execution of the backgrounds as per requirements of the production.
  • Create quick iterations for concept art in the various product stages.
  • Work collaboratively to meet production deadlines, ensuring open communication with other managers and team members.
  • Work efficiently and within the established workflow.
  • Participate in departments meetings as required. 

Job Requirements:

  • Must be flexible and willing to learn.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Uncompromising attention to detail.
  • Strong artistic background with solid understanding of perspective, composition and scale.
  • Must have a strong understanding of traditional animation and design principles.
  • Able to take direction and receive constructive feedback.
  • Able to work and communicate effectively in a collaborative, fast paced environment.
  • Be accountable for ensuring that our high-quality standards are met.
  • Working knowledge of Photoshop.
  • Diploma or Certificate in Animation considered an asset. 
  • Previous work experience in location design and exposure to animated productions is a definite asset.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen and Ontario resident, residing locally would be preferred.
