Mercury Filmworks is looking for an experienced in-studio animation producer to work in our Ottawa studio and oversee multiple animated film and tv productions. Job Description: The successful candidate will have an exceptional track record with at least five years of hands on experience working with and managing teams of artists in a studio environment. This is a senior level role with a wide and all-inclusive scope of responsibilities that run from working in development and shepherding creative, to managing contracts, hiring writers, casting, building production budgets and schedules, cost reporting, and inspiring artists. Animation Producers at Mercury Filmworks play a key role in the company’s goals to innovate and make the studio environment the very best it can be. This position has high visibility both internally and externally and works directly with senior management as well as executives from major networks and key partners.



  • Inspire and motivate a large creative team to produce world-class animated content
  • Support the creative vision of the key creative stakeholders with world class planning and execution practices
  • Act as a representative and liaison to industry and key partners.
  • Build, sell (to stakeholders), and manage development and production budgets and schedules
  • Organize and drive key people and groups to achieve their milestones
  • Identify and recruit key creatives and service partners (ie. post-production) needed to meet the highest standard of success on any given project
  • Deploy and manage each production management team
  • Promote and enforce best practices in respect of team leadership, project development, production planning, reporting, risk management, and resource allocation.  
  • Own the negotiation and management of contracts with staff, artists and all other outside vendors/suppliers for owned productions.
  • Provide regular project cost and status reporting. Identify any potential risks, develop solutions, and communicate clearly and regularly with stakeholders and senior management.
  • Leverage experience when collaborating with senior management and other production management teams on studio-wide changes required to achieve success for all productions.
  • Actively work to prevent silo’ing of productions.  



  • 5+ years of experience with complex budgets/schedules
  • Must be a resilient personality and able to work in a people and team-relationship based environment. Must be able to shed stress at the end of the day and thrive in an environment that alternates between a fast pace and a slow uphill crawl
  • Must have a deep knowledge of 3D and 2D digital pipelines and workflow
  • Must have superb communication, collaborative and interpersonal skills
  • Must be a driven, innovative, and dynamic problem solver with a focus on solutions
  • Must have exceptional organizational skills with high attention to detail
  • Proven ability to work under pressure in rapid iterative cycles
  • Must be detail oriented, entirely sufficient and self-directed
  • Must be a superb forward planner with the ability to identify and mitigate risk in advance
  • Must be a problem solver with a burning desire to contribute to a uniquely creative environment
  • Experience with International Productions an asset
  • A passion for animation!

This is a 2 year term contract position that we hope will lead to an offer of permanent employment. All offers of employment to individuals living outside the Ottawa area will include a moving allowance.
